Our target remained: African citizens (including the diaspora) between the ages of 18 and 25. We asked them to respond to the following question:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you were an African leader, how would you accelerate the implementation of SDGs on the continent?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 1,300 entries were received, representing an enormous variety of solutions and ideas on how to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Africa. The graphic below represents a snapshot of where contenders were situated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-1024x454.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10851\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-1024x454.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-300x133.png 300w, https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-768x340.png 768w, https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-1536x681.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-2048x908.png 2048w, https:\/\/www.uongozi.go.tz\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Essay-competition-2025-18x8.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The essays were judged on the basis of originality, creativity, use of language and appropriateness to contest theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we are pleased to announce the top five winners of the contest:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Overall winner:<\/strong>&nbsp;MacDonald Maduabuchi (Nigeria)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>First runner-up:<\/strong>&nbsp;Takudzwanashe Bvurire (Zimbabwe)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Second runner-up:<\/strong>&nbsp;Nantambi Bushirah&nbsp;(Uganda)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Third runner-up:<\/strong>&nbsp;Britney Ngube (Cameroon)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fourth runner-up:<\/strong>&nbsp;Paschazia Mbungu (Tanzania)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These young leaders will receive their prizes at an award ceremony during the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uongozi.or.tz\/research-policy\/flagship-events-alf\/\">African Leadership Forum<\/a> (ALF), hosted by the former President of Tanzania, H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, and former Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe, on 7 April 2025, in Kampala, Uganda. The ceremony will be attended by political and business leaders from across Africa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A grand prize of USD 2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner, and he will be asked to read his essay at the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners will also have an opportunity to participate in the ALF, as well as showcase posters that visually describe their ideas in the exhibition space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, we would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition.
